Sport 2021-2022
Serving us well with their Tennis Skills
This year, Our Lady of Mercy had two teams playing in the Leinster Primary School's Tennis League. The teams were made up of girls from 5th and 6th Classes. After several weeks of tennis matches, our first team reached the final of the Leinster Schools League which was played in Greystones on Thursday the 26th of May and while they missed out on a winning trophy, they came away with huge pride at being runners-up. A huge thank you and well done to Mrs Parkinson for organising the girls and the school's involvement in the league and the game of tennis.
Golf to the 'Fore'.....
Congratulations to the 19 girls who participated in this year’s Golf Programme which came to an end with the recent scramble outing against St Marys BNS. Well done also to the four girls who represented the school at the 18th Annual Golf Outing at the Castle Golf Club in Rathfarnham on Monday last, the 30th of May. We congratulate them on their golfing ability and excellent behaviour throughout the coaching sessions and subsequent outings. It was a huge success all round!
Tennis 2019-2020
Sincere thanks to Mrs Parkinson for giving so generously of her time in organising all the training and matches for the girls and for her endless encouragement to the girls over their tennis skills. Sadly their training and leagues came to a swift end due to the school closure over Covid -19 but we hope these girls will keep up their tennis skills and get to enjoy many more games of tennis when it is safe to do so again.
Sports in our school 2018-2019
Golf 'Tees Off' in School
It was great to witness the enthusiasm of 6th Class girls for their first session of the School Golf Programme in the driving ange in Leopardstown. They worked on grip, stance posture and swing and already have displayed quite a lot of ability and talent for the game of golf. Thereafter, they played four NIne Hole rounds of golf putting into practice all they had worked on in the driving range. Four of the girls represented the school at the Primary Schools Cup held in the Castle Golf Club in Rathfarnham. In just ove a week's time all 14 of the girls will take on the boys in the Inter school Golf Outing and we are all looking forward to this big annual event. Thanks to those parents who volunteered to share their golf knowledge and expertise with the girls and help make it such an enjoyable experience.
Monday Joggers with a mission !
Well done to the Monday Joggers for their weekly commitment to fitness and special thanks to Mrs McGovern for organising this activity with the assistance of Ms Doyle and Ms Moloney.
General Sports in our School
Here in Our Lady of Mercy, we understand the importance of PE as a subject and endeavour to provide a balanced curriculum that allows children to develop their physical skills and maintain a healthy active lifestyle from Junior Infants right through to 6th Class.
We hope to provide children with the physical skills and knowledge needed to participate in sports and also to ensure children enjoy lessons and continue to keep active when they leave.
Specialist coaching is offered in a variety of modules throughout the year as part of our in-school PE progamme. These modules include GAA, Playball, Gymnastics, Tennis and Yoga.
A Cycling Proficiency Course takes place every year for pupils of 5th class. This course is run by the D.L.R.D. Council to promote safe cycling habits and encourage cycling as a sustainable mode of transport.
As a Green School, we are delighted to encourage safe, green travel amongst our pupils.

After school hockey is organised by our PA and is offered to all pupils from 3rd to 6th. It takes place on a Thursday in UCD straight after school and is hugely popular among our girls.
Pupils from 3rd -6th are encouraged to get involved in our Santry Sports Athletic Programme coordinated in the school by Mrs McGovern and Ms Parkinson. This is the athletics division of Cumann na mBunscoil Dublin which organizes an athletics event for primary school children in the Dublin region usually around May. Training for the Santry Athletics takes place mainly after school hours and we are very proud of our success to date.
