Teddy Bear Picnic
Medal Winners!
After a fabulous Active School Week we all highly deserved to win a medal. But lucky Junior Infants, EVERYONE got a medal for their efforts! We are so proud of our gold medals!
Races at last!
On Monday we finally got to go outside to the field and take part in some fun races! We had five races altogether: A sack race (this was the favourite of all!), balancing the beanbag on the tennis raquet, dressing ourselves with the hula hoop, balancing the beanbag on our heads and a super fast sprint race. Have a look at the gallery to see some pictures of the girls in action!
Active School Week
Thursday
Thursday was a very wet day so our Sport's Day did not quite go as planned. We still managed to participate in a couple of activities which included ball games in the yard and stations in the hall. When the weather gets better we will have our races outside. We did however, have great fun with our indoor 'get fit' dances. 'Best days of our lives' was definitely our favourite tune to dance to! |
Wednesday With another 'Wake up and Shake up' this morning we were ready to start the day! Today's theme was 'Style your Scooter' and we really did just that! Have a look at our photos to see our stylish scooters! |

Today we had a slightly different start to our morning with a 'Wake up and Shake up' in the Senior yard. Sixth class taught us some dance moves to wake us all up, even the teachers and parents joined in! What great fun. We can't wait to see what dance we'll be learning tomorrow and Thursday mornings!
Monday
Active School Week has got off to a great start! We really did 'walk a mile with a smile' on Monday and couldn't believe how far we went. What a lovely walk through the woods of St. Helen's and back down Booterstown Avenue. Active Annie came along with us too!

Having fun with water!
In Maths at the moment, we are learning about Capacity. We have learned lots of new phrases such as full, empty, half full/empty, almost full/empty and overflowing. Today, we went outside to the Junior yard and in small groups we used lots of different containers and bottles to pour water into and out of. The containers were all different sizes, and we had to guess how many smaller bottles of water might fill a larger bottle. We had great fun and enjoyed having some help from the older girls who challenged us with some tricky questions!
Our School Tour: Greenan Farm and Maze
We had a wonderful trip to Greenan Farm and Maze in Rathdrum last Friday. Even though it was quite a long journey, we had so much fun when we arrived. Favourites included the maze (even Mrs. Loughnane found this tricky!), finding all the fairy doors and of course the farm. Thank you so much to our helpers Ann, Joanna and Ruth. Have a look at our pictures and see all the fun we had! Finding all the fairy doors in the woods, what a fabulous nature trail!

The Enormous Turnip
We hope you enjoyed our performance of 'The Enormous Turnip'. We have been practising for a long time and were so excited to perform for all our family and friends. Mrs. Loughnane couldn't believe how great we were, and how we used such loud voices throughout the play! Here are some pictures from our dress rehearsal performance.
Our Self Portraits
We had great fun doing our self portraits. Can you see the resemblance?!
Gymnastics Fun!
The girls are just loving their gymnastics class with Mrs. Tighe. Have a look at the fun things they are doing in gymnastics each week.
Beautiful Spring Garden
This week we paid a visit to our school garden which was looking just lovely after the gardening day on Saturday. We admired the bark on the ground and even smelled it! We noticed the spring flowers that included daffodils and tulips and also looked at the trees to spot the buds growing. There was one particular plant with huge green leaves and a pink stem which we didn't recognise. It was beautiful fresh rhubarb! Yum!
Happy Mother's Day!
Happy new year to everyone and welcome back to school! We are ready and excited for a new term ahead after a very busy first term. It certainly ended on a high note with a special visit from Santa Claus to our classroom on the last day. There was great excitement watching him arrive in the Garda Van and then coming in to talk to the children!
We look forward to learning lots of new things this term; more sounds, words, writing and reading!

Beautiful Art Work
Over the last few weeks, Junior Infants Orange have produced some really fabulous art work. They made really colourful lollipop sticks using crepe paper and they had their first experience with print when they made their beautiful rainbow fish. Have a look at the pictures with more details below.
We made our colourful rainbow fish using a rather different print technique! We used celery sticks to make the scales of the fish! Based on the fabulous story 'The Rainbow Fish' which we really love, we all made our own fish and it even had a special shiny scale. Our lollipops were made using colourful crepe paper. They look good enough to eat! |
We are loving Gaelic Football!!
The girls are just loving learning new skills in Gaelic Football every Wednesday with their coach Rachel. So far, they have learned how to throw a ball underarm as well as learning bouncing and catching skills. They just love the fun games Rachel uses to teach the skills. Have a look at the slideshow below.
Colour, Cut and Paste
How pretty do our wiggly worms and hot air balloons look?!
Science Week: 9th -13th November
Green Fingers!
Happy Halloween!
We had lots of fun preparing for Halloween. Look at our scary ghosts that we made. Three lucky girls got to take home the gold rings from the Báirín Breacs! We sang some scary songs and enjoyed giving the older girls a fright during our performance at assembly!
We have had a very busy half term in school. The girls have settled in so well and are learning so many new things each day. We are especially enjoying learning our sounds and very soon will be beginning to blend sounds together to make words. We will be reading before we know it! We now know the following sounds: s, a, t, i, p, n, c, k, e, h, r, m and d. Have a look at us practising our writing!
