A fantastic celebration for all our hard work

What a great day we had with special guest star, Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh joining us to mark and celebrate all the work we did as whole school community in raising our 5th Green Flag for Biodiversity. A large number of parents, members of the Board of Management and our school chaplain, Fr Cormac, watched on with equal pride as Blathnaid did the honours by raising the flag for all to see.
The Green School Committee who worked so hard over the last two years on the theme of biodiversity were praised and thanked for all their work before handing over their sashes to the new incoming Committee. Thanks to everyone, pupils, parents teachers and staff for making it such a successful day.

Great to see our special day featured in the Southside People. What a great reaction from all in the photo!

  Biodiversity

The overall aim of the Biodiversity theme for us was to increase awareness of the importance of biodiversity and for us to come up with ways in which we can help biodiversity.
As with the previous themes, Biodiversity integrated with the rest of the themes .

We concentrated our efforts by utilising the garden more so as to support the many ecosystems that exist out there. Finally in promoting the theme of biodiversity even more we took a closer look at our local natural resources, the beach and the marsh and saw what we ccould do to improve their benefits to us as a community

Biodiversity is all about ecological systems and how they complete and complement each other. The food chain is a good example. Soil nurtures plants, plants are eaten by animals, and animals are raised and used by humans for a variety of purposes. If one link of this chain were to go missing the chain would be destroyed. And if one link of this chain were changed, the entire chain would be different.
