Student Council

The Student Council was set up originally in 2010 and is made up of two representatives from 1st to 6th Classes. The Student Council members are chosen following class elections They represent their class, bringing class and school issues and suggestions to the council and share important information with their classmates.

The council meet every six weeks during lunch break with the teachers/facilitators Kate Moloney and Jennifer Collins. Open communication is vital in the Student Council. The class representatives are responsible for voicing suggestions  or concerns raised by their peers and these are brought back to the staff for further consideration.

Pupils in Our Lady of Mercy are an important part of the school community and they have the power to shape the school. Being a member of the Student Council is a great honour and a much sought after position Members set a good example for other pupils and instill pride in our school by promoting positive behaviour and a sense of ownership of and responsibility for our lovely school.

Thanks to our Student Council under the direction of Mrs Moloney and Ms Collins, our first- ever Well-being Week which ran from the 16th to the 20th of May was a great success. The aim of the week was to raise awareness and promote positive mental health throughout our school and wider community, a key goal of our Amber Flag  programme. It began with Mindful Monday followed by a day of laughter and fun with all the jokes shared on Tuesday and everyone got to enjoy extra time in the yard on Wednesday using all the yard games and quality time together at play. On Thursday, we celebrated  all the random acts of kindness we encounter on a daily basis in school and coming to school in our pyjamas on Friday was a hugely uplifting and positive day all round. What a positively, fantastic week for us all.......
