Hello and welcome to Ms. Ní Fhaoláin's 3rd Class webpage! We have been so busy since the beginning of the year and we want to share some of our work, memories, fun and what we have learned with you. Enjoy!
Walk a Mile with a Smile! :)
We were so lucky in September to be able to take part in our annual autumnal 'Walk a Mile with a Smile'! We love being out and about and we were delighted to see that the sun was shining. We are really looking forward to our next outing and we want to say a huge thank you to all the parents and dogs that joined us on our walk!
We were very busy coming up to Halloween this year and were delighted to be able to come in to school for a day of dress-up and fun! We loved our costumes and the parade we got to do around the school grounds in front of the parents! We even got to perform a Halloween song at assembly in front of the school and we were fantastic!
Healthy Living Week!
Healthy Living Week was a huge success this year! We did another walk a mile with a smile to begin the week. On Tuesday we had a visit from dentist Eleanor McGovern to talk to us about the importance of keeping our teeth and gums healthy. It was extremely interesting when we saw how much sugar was in our favourite foods and drinks and we even got our own toothbrushes! Our favourite part of the week was when we got the chance to taste all of the delicious fruits, vegetables, smoothies, sandwiches and treats in the hall.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year everyone! Here in rang a 3 we want to start the year as we mean to go on! we thought about what our new years resolutions would be and made some resolution hats for our classroom to remind us of our goals! Let's hope we can uphold our promises!
Our Clay Aliens!
We made Clay Aliens in February! First, we made pinch pots out of the clay. Next, we turned the pinch pots on their sides to act as mouths. Then we added eyes, ears, arms, legs, tails and even tongues and teeth to our aliens! We left the clay to dry for a week and then we got to paint them. We tried to give our aliens lots of colours and patterns so that they really looked out of this world! We had lots of fun making these aliens and they turned out really great :)
We have been busy in 3rd Class learning how to write reports. Each girl in the class got to pick a topic of their choice to write a report on. Each girl had to research their topic at home and in school, categorize all of the information into appropriate headings and paragraphs, draft their report, edit their piece of writing, write a final draft and then create a cover for their project. The girls put so much effort into theses pieces and they were done to an extremely high standard. Each girl got to present their project to the rest of the class at the end. We learned so much from each other doing these reports!

Learning about forces in Science
We are learning about forces in science. In groups we were given a copy, 8 pencils, a rubber band and a piece of string and had to make a simple machine to move the copy from one end of the table to the other! Each group had a different idea and we were all very creative coming up with our machines. In the end we figured out the best way to move the copy was to tie the string around the copy, attached to the rubber band and to lay the copy on the pencils like a convener belt. We pulled the rubber band and the copy moved!
We started learning how to play camogie this week! Lucy from Kilmacud Crokes came in to teach us. We got hurls, helmets, and sliotars. We did some drills and races. We were very lucky that the weather was so nice and we got to train on the field. We had lots of fun and can't wait to learn some more skills over the coming weeks.
In Maths we worked in pairs and groups to make 3D shapes out of cocktail sticks and marshmallows! We learned about plenty of new shapes and made cubes, cuboids, tetrahedrons, octahedrons, and lots of different prisms. We loved these tasks and even got to eat a marshmallow or two at the end!
School Tour to Zip-it!
We had an AMAZING day on our school tour in Zip-it! We all got harnesses and got a demo on how to use them and then off we went up into the trees climbing and zip-lining high in the sky. Have a look at our pictures and see what we got up to
We spent weeks creating Viking helemts using paper maché. We began with card and toilet roll holders and balloons. We covered them in three layers of paper maché and then we painted them! Look at how they turned out.
We had so much fun playing the many different types of drums and percussion instruments on drumming day! It was very noisy and our hands were sore afterwards, but we were all allowed to play a solo and we made poly-rhythms!
